West Bengal: AMRI fire toll touches 92

Kolkata: The toll in the Friday's fire at the private AMRI hospital rose to 92 on Sunday with the death of one more patient at its Salt Lake facility.

Hospital sources said Babulal Bhattacharya, admitted with heart problems at the AMRI Dhakuria hospital, was shifted to Salt Lake facility after the fire.

He expired in the early hours on Sunday, they said.

Bhattacharya, a resident of Sonarpur in South 24-Parganas, was a constable with the Newtown police station.

A state Forensic Research Laboratory team is on Sunday scheduled to visit the hospital basement, where the fire is believed to have originated. The team was unable to begin investigations on Saturday because of the water accumulated there.

Six of the seven arrested directors of the hospital, were on Saturday remanded in 10-day police custody by the Chief Judicial Magistrate of the Alipur court.
