Kolkata: In a yet another instance, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday allegedly lost her cool in public and threatened to slap a photojournalist at the sidelines of an event in Panagarh in Burdwan district.
"I will slap you, you uncivilised people. Don't you
see it's cooking here?" she snapped at photographers jostling for space at the "Mati Utsav" (Earth
Festival) on Saturday, when she was going round the venue. The footage went viral on TV channels in West Bengal on Sunday.
The incident comes a few days after Mamata lost her cool and screamed in public at her security guards for delay in arrival of her car at the Kolkata Book Fair site. The Trinamool Congress chief, in full public view, allegedly said that guards "should be whipped" for making her wait for her car.
An official of Publishers and Book Sellers Guild, which organised the fair, said that when the Chief Minister came out of the gate no 1, her car was not there and took some time to reach as it had to find its way through a crowd, following which she got angry.
"What she has done is against the values of basic human rights. It is a gross violation of human rights. We condemn such behaviour and that too from the highest authority of a state. We have filed a complaint," Association for Protection of Democratic Rights (APDR) official Dhiraj Sengupta had said.
