Krishnagar: The police on Monday arrested a 40-year-old man on the charge of raping a woman of his locality at Jhitkepota village under Kotwali police station in Nadia district.
The woman, who was deserted by her husband, lodged a complaint with the police that she was gagged, dragged from her house to a field and raped by the accused on Sunday night.
According to the complaint, the man entered the house when she was sleeping in her room with her mother.
On Monday morning, the woman told about the incident to a few locals who caught the accused and beat him up. After that, they handed him over to the police.
Medical test of the victim has been conducted, the sources said.
