New Delhi: Being Muslim in the West may not be funny right in the current day and age, but a Canadian sitcom is taking a shot at injecting some humour into the situation.
On the show Little Mosque of the Prairie it's not about being politically correct or incorrect, it's about breaking the Muslim streotype and the show seems to be doing it all in good humour.
Already a runaway hit in Canada, Little mosque… sheds light on the not-so-serious side of the Muslim community which has been facing mistrust and discriminatory backlash since 9/11.
“Yeah, and the whole issue that Muslims are not funny, this stereotype about Muslims that we are so hung up and we get really violent about everything, I wanted to be able to show that that's not true at all,” says the creator of the show, Zarqa Nawaz.
This comedy show has generated immense curiosity even before its release and has already drawn 2.1 million viewers on its debut night.
Little mosque of Praire is now going into its second season in Canada and is all set to premiere in the United Sates as well.
