Mumbai: You may hate it or love it, but NRIs are creating history around this film — Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. The Karan Johar offering is a paisa vasool in the Big Apple.
But is it only the pravasis who are digging in to these Hindi flicks? Who is raking in all the desi moolah then?
If there is anyone making lots of money, it's clearly Karan Johar. Not only has Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna got record collections overseas, it bagged 75-80 per cent collections in Mumbai multiplexes, 60-65 per cent in multiplexes in Delhi and 55 per cent across India.
In single screen theatres, the figures are around 30-35 per cent. But does Johar really care about small single screens? Our guess is as good as yours.
Faced with such a giant, films like Ahista Ahista are doing what they can - plodding along ahista ahista with barely 15-20 per cent collections.
Poor Abhay Deol, his career is going the way of his two elder cousins, Bobby and Sunny Deol.
And finally, there's Katputli, which sunk without a trace and no string pulling could save it.
