Oscar Fever: Play guessing games

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: The Academy Awards is just a month away, and there is much speculation on who will make it to the nominations.

At CNN-IBN, we are playing the guessing game too. Here are the likely nominations for the Award for the Best Actor.

Will Smith: Gab-real Muccino's English directorial debut Pursuit of Happiness, brought Will Smith in a dramatic and powerful role as against his image of being hysterically funny. The nomination of the actor in the Best performance by Actor in Drama category at the golden globe, could also reflect in Smith being named for the Oscars.

Leonardo DiCaprio: With two golden globe nominations and two screen actor guild nominations - Leonardo DiCaprio is the favourite this year for his impressive performance in The Departed where he played a cop who was constantly in angst, something he never did before. With his other film Blood Diamonds sparking Oscar talks, DiCaprio might just whisk away the award.

Forest Whitaker: With a hulking body frame of 6 feet 2 inches, actor Forest Whitaker, personified the dictator Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland. The Los Angeles Film Critic Association named him the Best Actor of the Year. What might impress the jury is the actor's exuberantly intimidating portrayal of Amin as a barbaric, treacherous autocrat.

Ken Watanabe: Set in the backdrop of world war II, Letters from Iwo Jima saw Ken Wat-a-nabe give a great performance playing the famed General Tadamichi Kuri-ba-ya-shi. In the film, the star managed to exude great stature and distinguishable courage with his presence.

Sacha Baron: The surprise nomination for this year's Oscars may be Saacha Baron Co-en. The English comedian cum actor, has been famous for his controversial comic characters. In his recent film Bo-rat, he plays a Kazakh journalist, who hysterically becomes more interested in locating and marrying Pamela Anderson than his assignment in America. This highest adult-rated film helped in grossing the much-needed moolah for Hollywood by adding $125 million to its pot.

So till the nominations are declared on January 23, keep guessing.
