London: It looks like the white flag is up at Big Brother's house with a classic kiss and make up tale with Jade Goody and Shilpa Shetty hugging and then Daniellle Lloyd apologising to her.
But for the show's supporters, it's too little too late. And they can't help but think it could be more an enacted episode than a well-meant apology
The damage is done. You can’t take back what she said,” says a student Vishal Vadgama.
Friday is the day when the public will vote through calls and text messages on whether to evict Jade or Shilpa. Many of the viewers have already made up their mind.
“Of course Jade Goody leaving and seriously questioned about what happened. I don’t think there can be any other type of outcome,” says a professional Archana Rao.
Another professional Becky Thomas adds, “I think jade will have to go.”
Who goes or who stays will be known in a few hours but some do believe the issue goes beyond the small screen.
It raises the question of whether the east west divide still exists. Whether under all this talk of multiculturalism, there is a lack of understanding and respect for those coming from different backgrounds.
“It's a lack of culture. How to live in a globalised world, and also sometimes celebrities who make a lot of money, forget others have some feeling. It's a problem that is arising in most countries. They are using language, which is fine within friends, but they should avoid it with others,” says Chairman, Caparo group Lord Swraj Paul.
As Channel 4 gears up for record viewership and record votes, Friday could be another dramatic act in what is turning out to be a real life drama.
