Pak offers Rs 1 cr for info on Benazir's aide

New Delhi: Another face of suspicion has emerged in the killing of former Pakistan prime minister Benazir Bhutto. Video footage of the attack shows a clean-shaven short man, making suspicious gestures, standing right next to Bhutto.

PPP workers say the man - apparently Bhutto's aide, Khalid Shahinshah - was in a rush to get into her car after she ended her speech.

Shahinshah is absconding.

On Wednesday the government published his still photograph, taken from the video footage. A reward of Rs 10 million has been announced for information on him.

Meanwhile, the US on Friday said it is not aware of any report in which Osama bin Laden or the al Qaeda has taken responsibility for the assassination of former Pakistan premier Benazir Bhutto.

"We have not seen this report, if that's out there. And we'll certainly look for it," White House Deputy Spokesman Tony Fratto was quoted as saying by agencies.

The United States again hailed the role of President Pervez Musharraf in the war on terror saying that it is important for Washington to have leadership in Islamabad -- whoever that may be -- which is committed to fighting terrorism.

Immediately after the assassination of Pakistan’s former prime minister, the Pakistan government had blamed al Qaeda for the attack, claiming intelligence agents intercepted congratulatory messages from an al Qaeda-linked militant leader Baitullah Mehsud.
