Barabanki (Uttar Pradesh): He is the biggest superstar that India has ever seen. The angry young man in the '70s, wannabe politician till the early '90s and the most lovable senior citizen actor in 2007.

But is he a farmer? Who would ever believe that?

So just why did the Big B decide to buy 2.5 acres of agricultural land in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, by claiming to be a farmer?

Says the person who filed the petition against the superstar, Amir Haider, "By showing that he is a farmer, he would get land in Pune and that is why he has done this."

CNN-IBN has also learnt that Bachchan tried to forge land revenue records in Barabanki to prove that he had bought the property in 1983.

  • His residential address is shown as 17 Clive Road, Allahabad. This is a house that the Bachchans left decades back. The question here is: Why did he not give his Mumbai address?
  • Amitabh Bachchan's name is entered in record books as Amitabh, son of Harivansh Rai. The question is: Why did he not write his full name?
  • All other entries in the book are of 1983 in the same ink. It's only against Amitabh's name that the entry is in different ink. How is that possible?
  • To obtain government land, one has to fulfill three criteria: be a permanent resident of the place, be a landless farmer and should enjoy Scheduled Caste status. Does the Big B satisfy any of this criterion?

Says a farmer, Karter Singh, "Amitabh Bachchan doesn't own any farm here."

Adds another farmer, Pradip Kumar, "He earns in crores, but still hankers for a small piece of land."

The farmers who live here came here in early '60s. By claiming this land, Amitabh Bachchan has not only worried them, but his image has also taken a beating.
