Mumbai: Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra was inspired by the Dev Anand-Waheeda Rahman song from the classic Kala Bazaar while naming his film Khoya Khoya Chand
" We are admitting that we are not as good as the people of the past with the language. In my sense, I am counting on the fact that the title will remind of the era that my film is set in," he says.
Misra isn't the only one counting on recall value of classic Hindi film songs. The trend began with the SRK-Kajol blockbuster Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge way back in the 1990s.
And the Yashraj banner carried the trend forward with their latest Tara Rum Pum - the title of this film is inspired from a song from Baaton Baaton Mein.
Director Sidharth Raj Anand thinks that the title of his film encompasses everything in his film.
"It was very difficult to get a title because my film has drama, action and adventure. But the film in itself is conveyed with the title. Tara Rum Pum means the human spirit," he explains.
While you may choose not to buy the logic, but the numero unos in the film industry do. Like Yashraj Films also have Jhoom Barabar Jhoom lined up, the title again inspired from an old song from the oldie 5 Rifles.
So while films struggle to keep up with original scripts and ideas, counting on an old film melody to stay on in public memory is another Bollywood strategy that has worked.
