Why us? Angry Orissa CM slams Prez rule idea

New Delhi: Orissa Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik has strongly criticised demands for President's rule in the state following incidents of communal clashes in the state.

He said Orissa was being wrongly targeted as similar incidents had been reported from some other states as well.

“I think that would be totally unjustified and politically motivated, because, I repeat, that my government has done everything it possibly could to bring the situation under control. We are making every effort to stop it. I don’t want to make comparisons, but there have been violent incidents and communal incidents in other parts of India. I don’t see why the government of Orrisa should be targeted,” he said.

Meanwhile on Friday, Home Minister Shivraj Patil refused to comment on the situation in the state among mounting demands for Central intervention.

Patil, who was addressing media after a function here, abruptly ended the interaction and went away when asked by reporters what the government was planning to do in Orissa in the wake of the continuing violence.

"At this event, it is not necessary that I take any other question than the purpose for which the conference is bing held," he said.
