Mumbai: Using public transport in Mumbai, getting in and off the jam-packed local trains is a nightmare that commuters face everyday. But a sigh of relief is BrihanMumbai Corporation’s BEST bus number 524.
Mumbaikars are particularly fond of this bus, which covers a long stretch of 44 kilometers in two-hours and offers a comfortable and hassle-free travel.
For just Rs 22 as the bus fare, it’s two-hours of noiseless comfort from northern suburb of Borivali east to the satellite town of Navi Mumbai. The bus has become so popular that most passengers don't mind taking the 2-hour journey.
The best thing they say is the office-goers crowd, which means no rowdiness, no push and pull. Rather a quite civilized travel. "This bus is fine. It drops me right outside IIT gate. Instead of changing trains I prefer this quite journey," says student and daily commuter Akshay Joshi.
The bus goes through the entire suburban stretch of the city, right from slums to the high-rise buildings. "Going by bus it is more comfortable than the crowded train. I prefer it," says Madhuri, a housewife.
Rs 22 fare for a bus ride is probably the highest one in Mumbai. But for the passengers it’s cheaper than a rickshaw or taxi travel that would cost them at least Rs 300 for the same distance.
