A murderer will never admit his crime: Jasbir

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Jasbir Singh has reacted strongly to Congress leader Jagdish Tytler's statement that he is not an eyewitness to the ’84 riots.

Speaking to CNN-IBN, hours after a Delhi court ordered the reinvestigation into Tytler's role in the anti-Sikh riots, Singh said, “First Tytler denied my existence, now when I have spoken out he says I was not a witness.”

“Will a murderer ever admit to his crime?” demanded Singh, who had been tracked down by CNN-IBN after the CBI had declared him untraceable.

Jasbir Singh had moved to America for good in November 2002.

“When I felt my life is in danger, I moved to America,” he said. He had lost 26 relatives to the Sikh riots.

Jagdish Tytler was unfazed, even after a Delhi court directed CBI to reinvestigate his role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and has continued to claim innocence.

“Where is the key witness? He (Jasbir Singh) is not the key witness. I'm happy that the judge has said that the CBI should enquire from Jasbir Singh's affidavit, find out the truth and then act on it,” he added,” said Tytler.

“All the lies that have been spread will also be told, and if found guilty even after 20 years, I'm the first person who'll be ready to be hung. I know what I've done,” he claimed.

Tytler’s alma mater, the Congress party continues to tacitly back him, clearly showing that while it targeted Modi over the Gujarat riots, it sings a different tune when it comes to the 1984 riots.

Said Congress Spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi, “The court has to decide the case. Whatever verdict is given, he (Tytler) will have to abide by that

The Tytler reinvestigation will bring in uncomfortable questions for the Congress, especially with a Sikh prime minister at its helm. For a party that wants to appear secular and takes the moral high ground on riots, washing off the stains of the ‘84 riots will be tough.
