Will broadcast bill help Khurana in getting justice?

New Delhi: A broadcast bill, brought our in order to put checks and controls on private news channels, may turn significant in the wake of fake sting operations that have surfaced recently.

The fate of Delhi school-teacher Uma Khurana — who became a target and then a victim of a fake hidden-camera-expose, also impinges on the bill. She is likely to get a judgement by a Delhi Court today.

The city police will submit its final report before the court on Wednesday. The Police said they have so far not found any evidence against Khurana on her alleged involvement in a sex racket that involved minor girls.

The Delhi government will now have to explain to the court, why Khurana was suspended and what action is to be taken to rectify the mistake.

The Crime Branch jointly interrogated both Khurana and TV journalist Prakash Singh (Live India reporter) who carried out the fake sting operation on a private news channel.

Delhi-based journalist Prakash Singh had spearheaded a “fake” sting operation—while claiming to have busted a major prostitution racket on a private news channel.

The journalist and his aids are now behind bars for implicating the Delhi-government school teacher Uma Khurana in a so-called prostitution racket, the teacher in question is in a position to file for damages.

She can file damages against the channel on whose behalf the sting was carried and also against Delhi government that took action against her without even waiting for legal evidence, say lawyers.

“There is a suo moto notice in this case. Uma khurana can become a party to the same petition. She can ask for relief, reinstatement back to the school where she was working. She can move a compensatory order against the Delhi government that dismissed her without any enquiry, compensatory order and order of damages against the channel on whose behalf the reporter was working,” said Meenakshi Lekhi, a lawyer.
