BJP sore due to poll defeat: Sonia Gandhi

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: In her first address to the party MPs since she returned from the US after having a surgery in August, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday criticised the Opposition and Team Anna over the Lokpal and other Bills.

Addressing the Congress Parliamentary Party meeting, Sonia Gandhi said, "We are ready for the fight over the Lokpal and Women's Reservation Bill."

Taking a strong stand on the Lokpal Bill, she said, "The Lokpal Bill has been passed by the Cabinet. The Opposition will have lots of things to say, they should accept suggestions of the Government. Team Anna should also accept it."

"The Opposition is always trying to disrupt Parliament. The Food Security Bill was a dream, and they are trying to stop it," said the Congress President.

Criticising the Opposition, Sonia Gandhi further said, "The Opposition cannot reconcile to the fact that they have lost".

Declining the news of rift between the Congress and the UPA Government, Gandhi said, "The party and the Government support each other, there is no rift between the party and the Government. We promised to take steps to fight corruption in Burari and we have fulfilled it."

"Forces are trying to disrupt us from fulfilling our commitments," she added.

Congress MP and Union Minister Kapil Sibal said, "Mrs Gandhi made it clear that the obstructionist attitude of the BJP is because they have not been able to reconcile with their defeat in General Elections. It was the Congress Party that indicated what steps it would take on fighting against corruption in continuance of the Burari resolution. No party has done as much against corruption. The Congress party has a commitment to the aam admi and the Food Security Bill is our move towards the commitment to the people."

"Mrs Gandhi has made it clear that the party and the Government are on the same platform," Sibal said further.
