Hyderabad: Four days after controversial Bangaldeshi author Taslima Nasreen was attacked by legislators of a radical Islamist party the Hyderabad Police have filed an FIR against author for hurting religious sentiments. And a case has also been registered against MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi for issuing death threats to Taslima.
“According to the fatwa, this woman’s head should be tonsured,” said MIM MLA, Akbaruddin Owaisi. Such statements have led to a case of criminal intimidation being filed against Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi. After getting court permission late Saturday night, the Hyderabad police filed the case on Sunday.
"The case will be booked under the nature of criminal intimidation under sec 506 of the Indian Penal Code and that section is non cognizable," said Police Commissioner Balwinder Singh.
However, the magistrate has asked for time before Farath Ullah Khan of the Majlis Bachao Tehreek can be booked for comments like this one.
Farath Ullah Khan said, "I'll kill Taslima Nasreen, Salman Rushdie, the Danish Cartoonist and anyone who tried to play with the modesty, honor and integrity of the Prophet. And, I am ready to go to gallows even for this."
No arrests have been made in the case yet. MIM MLAs have refused to comment on the issue.
Taslima Nasreen might be summoned for investigating the case registered against her by MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi. That is when we might know if the attack was a game of political one-upmanship to garner the Muslim vote.
