'Willing farmers' protest Tata pullout

Singur: Angry farmers who willingly gave up their land for the Nano project in hope of a better future took to the streets in protest against the Tata’s pullout from Singur.

For a 65-year-old farmer in Singur Ajit Kumar Shaw, Ratan Tata's decision has come as a rude shock.

Shaw had two acres of land which he willingly gave to the Tatas for their plant hoping for a better future for his family.

The scrapping of the Nano project has now left him in the lurch though he still hopes the Tatas may come back again.

Shaw says, “Although they have announced that they are going, my hunch says that they will come back”.

Farmers like Shaw, who were looking forward to the Nano project coming up in Singur now feel cheated.

They demonstrated on the National Highway no.2 stopping traffic for hours together.

The farmers burnt tyres and damaged roads. In other areas they also blocked railway tracks .

One of the willing farmer says that if Tatas go, we will be at a loss.

The current situation in Singur once again highlights how helpless we are in the hands of the politicians.
