Bangalore: The smiles haven't stopped for the 2005 Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna winner Pankaj Advani.
The Bangalore-based cueist made it two in a row as he won the Billiards world title, defeating compatriot Dhruv Sitwala in the final in Singapore recently.
For a reigning world champion, Pankaj Advani is an unassuming man. The young cueist is back after winning the IBSF Billiards World Championship in the time format in Singapore.
Incredibly this is his fourth world title and not many can boast of that at 22 years of age.
"It was a bit of a scrappy final in the beginning. In six hours normally both players get chances to do well. So if you lose you cannot say that you did not get a chance unless your opponent has played exceptionally well which was not the case in this final at least for the first four hours," Pankaj Advani said.
Pankaj was the defending champion in both the time and the points format at the championship. His mettle was tested when he lost in the pre-quarters of the points format.
But he shrugged off the disappointment and came back strongly to win the time format.
"I have played really well when the chips were down and it gives me a lot of satisfaction and I am really excited because as everyone says the rise to the top is very easy. But all eyes are on you when you are at the top and I am very happy that I have lived up to everyone’s expectations," Advani said.
Pankaj's win has once again showcased India's domination of the sport, as all four finalists in the two events were Indians.
