Her son Muneer says that she was in unbearable pain, but there was no other way to take her to the hospital except to carry her for seven kilometers.
Life's like this in much of South Kashmir where heavy snowfall has completely cut off villages.
Villagers say that there are no basic necessities and all shops are closed.
Across the Pir Panjal, life is no different. The Vaishno Devi Shrine is under three feet of snow, but the yatra still is on. Heavy snowfall continues at the Jawahar Tunnel and at Patnitop on the Srinagar-Jammu highway
The highway has come to a standstill and all supplies going to the Valley are blocked. Over 1,200 load carriers are lined up at various points on the highway, unable to move because of the snow. Stranded passengers are fast losing their resources and their patience.
Truck drivers like Abdul Latif have lost a major part of the livestock they were carrying from Delhi to Srinagar to the cold. He says a number of goats that he was transporting died due to the excessive cold.
More than 2,000 passengers are stranded at the Jammu Bus stand, and the severest winter of all is, no doubt, in the Valley.
