Harda (Madhya Pradesh): Drinking water scarcity and the consequent disputes arising out of it have taken fivve human lives in Madhya Pradesh this summer. The latest victim was a 55-year-old woman of Kamtara village in district Harda who died at the district hospital on Friday. Prema Bai was allegedly set on fire by village goons on Tuesday following a dispute over filling water.

Relatives of Prema Bai protested outside the District Collector's office. They stood there with her body, demanding that a murder case be registrated. Her family alleges that Prema Bai was killed after she backed her daughter in a dispute over filling water at the village tap.

Her daughter, Dolly said, "Around 80 people came to our house, poured kerosine over my mother and set her on fire. We had even forgotten about the dispute that had occurred at the village tap."

Prema Bai's family have named the people who are allegedly behind the murder, but the police are not convinced.

Harda Sub Divisional Officer, Abhishek Rajan said, "We have registered a case and are inquiring into it. If we find that people from outside set her on fire, then we will register a murder case"

This is the fifth such incident in the state when water disputes have led to murders. Earlier during the summer, two brothers were killed in Bhind, one person was killed in Gwalior and one in the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh.
