Cannes: Oscar winning filmmaker Woody Allen's latest, Vicky Cristina Barcelona premiered at Cannes over the weekend. This one is a comedy starring Penelope Cruz, Scarlett Johansson and Rebecca Hall.
In the film, Johansson and Hall play Vicky And Cristina, who get into a relationship with a painter, played by Javier Bardem, during their trip to Barcelona.
The artist's wild ex-girlfriend played by Cruz simply adds to the story's comic twists and turns. And as the name suggests, the film is based in Spain.
But when asked why the movie was shot in Barcelona Allen replies, “People from Barcelona called and said would I be interested in making a film there they would finance it and so I said sure, I love Spain, I love Barcelona, my wife and my children would love to spend the summer in Barcelona, that would be very pleasurable for them. So I wrote something that I could shoot in Barcelona.”
“If someone had called me from Rome, or Venice or Stockholm or God knows where I probably would have a agreed to do it just as readily," he adds.
And though the film is slated to hit American theatres on September 5, it's already making news because of a kissing scene between Cruz and her co-star Johansson.
