New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi is doing his best to increase his Dalit vote bank in Uttar Pradesh but he isn't making much of a dent.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has strengthened her position by sweeping the bypolls in all five constituencies - two Lok Sabha and three Vidhan Sabha.
BSP has won the Khalilabad Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 64,000 votes, Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat by an impressive margin of 53,000 votes and assembly seats Moradnagar, Bilgram and Colonelganj
With truth sinking in that Mayawati can never be a friend to Congress - in fact she is more a threat to its traditional votebank - Rahul Gandhi is positioning himself as the possible alternative to her.
Rahul is presently travelling through Bundelkhand. But Mayawati doesn't have to make such effort and yet she keeps on winning.
Both Mayawati and Rahul have accused each other of not being true to the Dalit cause. But with these results, round one of this war over the Dalit votebank has been won by Mayawati.
