Woolmer to Afridi: Reconsider decision

ANI

Karachi: Pakistan cricket team coach Bob Woolmer is apparently not very happy with flamboyant all rounder Shahid Afridi's decision to quit Test cricket and concentrate only on One Day Internationals (ODIs) till the 2007 cricket World Cup.

Pakistan Cricket Board officials have said that Woolmer has already expressed his surprise to the Board about Afridi's decision.

Woolmer, who is now in Dubai, supervising a coaching clinic for youngsters, will personally speak to Afridi when the Pakistan team comes here for the two ODIs against India on April 18 and 19.

"Woolmer has conveyed that he is not happy with Afridi's decision and will speak to him when he reaches there with the Pakistan team. He firmly believes that Afridi is one of the few players capable of adjusting and doing well in both forms of the game," an official said.

Afridi had said that he had taken the decision to shun Test matches and concentrate only on ODIs till the World Cup as he felt he was not able to adjust between both forms of the game and his performances were suffering in the one-dayers.

He said he had also consulted skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq over the matter before taking the decision.

"I want to focus on ODIs only as the World Cup is a very important tournament for us and I want to see myself and the team doing well," Afridi had said.
