Pankaj Advani returns to India after win

Bangalore: Pankaj Advani, the Indian who made his countrymen proud by winning the title at the World Billiards Championship at Leeds in UK, returned to hometown Bangalore on early Tuesday morning.

Advani was welcomed at the airport by friends and family members.

Admirers congratulated and garlanded the young boy as he stepped out of the airport checks.

An overwhelmed but visibly tired Advani said, "I do not know what I am speaking right now, I do not know where my thoughts are. But at the moment I am just enjoying every minute of the victory. It is yet to sink in. The tournament has been really draining for me. I have really had to dig deep to win some of my matches. I am really tired at the moment and would appreciate if I can speak in detail tomorrow. All I can say is that I am very happy and I am extremely excited because it is a huge milestone. It is great for the game of billiards and it is great for all the cuers in the country and I hope this adds inspirational value."

With the title, Advani became only the second Indian ever, after Geet Sethi to win the title in its 139 years of history. Pankaj Advani beat defending champion Mike Russel to win the prestigious title on Sunday.

The young man's achievements have been noticed by all. President Pratibha Patil too congratulated Pankaj Advani for becoming the World Billiards Champion.

Pankaj defeated nine-time winner Mike Russell in the final to lift the winner's trophy.
