New Delhi: After their heroic efforts in South Africa, the Indian Davis Cup team will now face Russia in the first round of the world group matches next year.
The draw was officially announced in Geneva on Wednesday and India will now have to travel to Russia for the big tie from March 5 to March 7.
Russia will field some top class players like current world number 8 Nikolay Davydenko in their team. They are unbeaten at home in their last 16 matches, going back to 1996, and to add to that they get to chose the playing surface.
A tough tournament is coming up for the Indian team that beat South Africa 4-1 last weekend to make it into the elite world group after a long gap of 11 years.
