New Delhi: On world music day CNN-IBN brings you all about an oldie from Dev Anand's Guide. Here is Dev Anand himself telling you how this song came together.
"Din Dhaal Jaye was superb. I remember I was travelling on an aircraft to Delhi and Shailender the great poet he was sitting there. He walked up to me and said, 'Dev Saab I wanted a favour, can I write the songs for Guide'. I said, 'why not, come over'. So he came and wrote some beautiful songs," recalls Dev Anand.
And that's how music director SD Burman and lyricist Shailendra came together to create Guide's hit soundtrack.
Not only did the film's music break records all over the country, it also won S D Burman the Filmfare for Best Music Director that year.
"When dada (S D Burman) played the notes, I loved the notes and I said, 'dada the notes are great', and he smiled. He was happy, he was elated and he said get Shailender over to write it. I sent my guard to Shailender and he (Shailender) came back he wrote the first para in five minutes. I still remember it was a very beautiful song - beautifully composed and beautifully sung," says Dev Anand.
