World wipes: News on Monday

Clashes between rival Palestinian groups Fatah and Hamas continued in the Gaza Strip for a seventh day; Leaders of the EU and Russia exchanged criticism over human rights and Florida deep-sea explorers are claiming to have found the richest shipwreck treasure in history.

Gaza clash continues

Government troops in Lebanon are battling Islamic militants for a second day. The fighting is centred at a Palestinian refugee camp near Tripoli. Witnesses say the camp is being targeted by tank fire, after attacks on the army by a group called Fatah al-Islam.

Israel Bombings

Israel has bombed a Hamas stronghold in the Gaza Strip, the latest strike in an escalating air campaign. Another Israeli air strike on a Hamas politician's home killed 8 Palestinians, but missed their target.

More American soldiers dead in Iraq

In Iraq 15 American soldiers have been killed since Friday. Of these seven were killed in the capital Baghdad and Diwaniyah in the south. The latest casualties came in the wake of the US stepping up its search for three missing soldiers, who were abducted during an ambush on May 12. Elsewhere explosions were heard around the Green Zone in central Baghdad.
