Gaza clash continues
Clashes between rival Palestinian groups Fatah and Hamas continued in the Gaza Strip for a sixth day, even as Israel launched a series of air strikes on Hamas targets.

At least nine Hamas fighters have been killed in air strikes since early Thursday.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and asked her to halt an Israeli "military escalation".

But Israel has threatened stronger action to stop further rocket attacks.

EU, Russia criticise each other
Leaders of the EU and Russia exchanged criticism over human rights at a summit in Samara in Russia.

EU leaders raised concerns about Russia's treatment of Opposition activists and critics of the Kremlin.

In turn, Putin retorted that Estonia's ethnic Russians were being persecuted.

The event produced no formal agreement between the parties.

Explorers found richest shipwreck treasure
Florida deep-sea explorers are claiming to have found the richest shipwreck treasure in history – worth around $500 million – from an undisclosed site in the Atlantic Ocean.

The treasure includes gold and silver coins from colonial times, estimated at $1,000 each.

No details have been released about the ship or the wreck site. But court records indicate that the coins might come from a 400-year-old ship found off England.
