Yahoo! enhances map service

India Broadcast News

Yahoo! on Thursday released the beta version of its new Yahoo! Maps service.

The new map service provides consumers an interactive look and feel with new features such as multi-point driving directions, local content integration, larger main map and dynamic pan, zoom and re-center technology.

Yahoo! Maps uses the Macromedia's Flash and requires a Flash 7 installed.

In its basic look, feel, and functionality, Yahoo! Maps service closely resembles its Google and MSN counterparts.

However, the difference lies in the fact that Yahoo! does not provide aerial snapshots of the locales that one is looking for, just crisp maps.

But that omission aside, Yahoo!'s new take on local info may be the slickest of the three.

For instance, a little inset map shows you a view of the area surrounding the main map, which proves helpful when it comes to panning and zooming.
