New Delhi: Former external affairs minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yashwant Sinha has said that India is already at war, and the government should not rule out using military force to deal with the terrorist threat from across the border.
"We are not seeking war but India is at war whether we like it or not. And the war has been perpetrated on India and against India by Pakistan. We should not rule out any possibility, we should keep all our options open and respond as and when situation so demands," Sinha told CNN-IBN in an exclusive interview.
Sinha also accused Pakistan of not keeping its earlier promises of curbing the activities of terror groups.
"We are somewhere reducing the pressure that Pakistan is under. Pakistan's record has not been very encouraging in this regard so therefore we have to put all the pressure on Pakistan to keep them from deviating from the promises they are making once again," he said.
Sinha's remarks came after External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee clarified that India will not use the military option against Pakistan.
While addressing the Lok Sabha on Thursday, Mukherjee said, "I am making it quite clear that it (war) is not a solution."
He, however, demanded that Pakistan must act against terror groups based on its soil and stop them from launching attacks against India.
"Controllers of Mumbai attacks were in Pakistan. Islamabad should act against them. Pakistan must be forced to act against terrorists. There is irrefutable proof (that) the epicentre of this (Mumbai terror attack) attack and not only this one but many more are in our neighbouring country," said Mukherjee.
In a rare show of unity, all the political parties backed the government's stand on the Mumbai terror attack with Leader of Opposition and BJP leader LK Advani calling it an act of war and assuring the government of all support.
