5 Things We Learnt At The Movies In 2008
Ashutosh Gowariker could never win a short-film contest: Lagaan clocked in at 3 hours and 44 minutes, Swades plodded on for 3 hours and 30 minutes, and Jodhaa Akbar came in at 3 hours and 33 minutes. Somebody give this man a watch!
Aamir and SRK can carry off even average films, Salman can't: What would Ghajini and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi be without the two Khans who elevated those average potboilers into money-spinning hits? Salman, sadly, couldn't even get God Tussi Great Ho, Hello, Heroes or Yuvvraaj a decent opening!
The Showman has nothing left to show: Subhash Ghai's double disasters in 2008 - Yuvvraaj and Black & White prove he's lost his game and he can't reinvent himself either!
Ramgopal Varma is a man to fear: He sent a chill down our spines once again with Phoonk; and you can bet the Deshmukhs don't want him around them anymore!
Madhur Bhandarkar has only one story to tell: Recycling the same story of an ambitious protagonist compromising on her principles, tasting success, then falling hard, Bhandarkar made Page 3, Corporate and this year's Fashion from the same formula, merely changing the setting each time. Somebody give him some new ideas please!
