BJP workers angry as Yeddy aide gets poll tkt

Bangalore: In poll-bound Karnataka, the choice of Yeddyurappa's close aide Shobha Karandlaje to contest for an assembly segment in Bangalore has ruffled feathers and started dissidence in the saffron party.

Earlier seen in the Legislative Council, Karandlaje now has set her sights on a Legislative Assembly seat. The BJP MLC would be contesting from one of Bangalore's assembly segments.

“MLC is a nominated post. I get strength if I am elected by the people.,” Shobha Karandlaje said.

Her candidature, however, has caused much heartache in the BJP camp. Many in the party are unhappy because this close aide of chief ministerial candidate B S Yeddyurappa was preferred over others.

As the dates for filing nominations draw near, dissidence is brewing beneath the surface.

“Naturally, aspirants in each constituency are eight to ten. Some grievances are there with respect to consent for places. In the last one month, we are trying our level best to convince our workers,” said Yeddyurappa.

“The workers are given tickets. Workers who have been working for 20 years have got the ticket. All workers are going together. There is no problem about the ticket issuance,” Karandlaje stated.

The BJP has already announced 90 per cent of its candidates for the fist phase of polling, but its problems are only beginning.

By Tuesday, all parties would have to choose candidates for all constituencies as Wednesday is the last date for filing nominations for the first phase of polling.

After that, what could be expected is outright rivalry between candidates and wannabe candidates. Parties would have to worry about not just rival parties, but rivals within their parties.
