Yeddyurappa in marathon meets with leaders

New Delhi: The political crisis in Karnataka's BJP circles may have puzzled many but one man who is unfazed about the final outcome is Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa.

Yeddyurappa is in the national capital and held a series of meetings with senior BJP leaders on Wednesday.

The beleaguered CM did not forget or sidetrack the dissidents. At the end of the marathon meetings, Yeddyurappa says he is confident of an amicable solution and that the infighting must end.

The Karnataka CM had left his home state to fly to Delhi at 1730 hrs IST. The motive was the effort to save the BJP government ruling the state.

At 2030, when he arrived at the Delhi airport, he was greeted by supporters, MLAs and the state BJP president Sadanand Gowda. A confident Yeddyurappa declared that his government was safe.

"My government will complete a five year term," he said to his supporters and to the reporters.

Yeddyurappa did not rest even after he reached Karnataka Bhawan at 2100 hrs IST. From there began his trips to reach out to the leadership of BJP.

He visited former BJP president Venkaiah Naidu's residence on Aurangzeb Road at 2130 hrs. Thereafter, he met Arun Jaitley, the senior BJP leader in charge of Karnataka affairs. The party leadership seems to have given him one mantra - patch up with the Reddys of Bellary.

Late into the night, at 2200 hrs, Yeddyurappa made it to the house of the BJP General Secretary and Karnataka MP, Anant Kumar who has largely been reported to have precipitated the current crisis.

At 2030 hrs IST into the night, Yeddyurappa and Anant Kumar met the man who has been projected by the rebel faction of Karnataka's BJP - the Vidhan Sabha speaker Jagdish Shettar. Shettar is the choice of the Bellary Reddy brothers to replace Yeddyurappa as the chief minister of Karnataka. This was a first face-to-face meeting between the CM and his detractors.

The meeting went on till well past midnight, following which Anant Kumar and Yedyurappa left without saying a word to the media or supporters.

Thursday is another flurry of meeting lined up for Yeddyurappa. The day is set to see continuous activity till a solution is found and the imbroglio ends.
