Shikaripura: As BJP decides to meet on Monday to endorse BS Yeddyurappa as Chief Minister of Karnataka, people in his hometown are beaming with joy.

Seventy-five-year old Shankar Moorthy, a cinema operator in a tiny village in Shikaripura revels as his old friend BS Yeddyurappa sets to take over as Karnataka’s Chief Minister.

“He and I used to wear the RSS shorts together. I feel proud that he has become so big,” says Shankar.

Other residents of Shikaripura share his happiness. They have seen Yeddyurappa, one-time RSS activist fight many battles.

“After many protests for farmers, he became a municipal president, then MLA and now a CM. We are very happy. Karnataka is happy and many people have put their faith in him,” says a resident of Shikaripura, Kori Manjappa.

The loss of his beloved wife Maithra Devi, four years ago, came as a blow to Yeddyurappa and he was left with three daughters and two sons. Yeddyurappa's constant sorrow has been that his partner and silent support of many years passed away before he became deputy CM and couldn't live to see him ascend to the Chief Minister's chair.

"We really miss her today and even my father was saying that he misses her. She has been a support to him all these years and she took care the kids alone so that he could pursue his political ambitions,” says Yeddyurappa's daughter, Aruna devi.

Yeddyurappa's family also reveals a romantic side to the otherwise temperamental man.

"My father used to take my mother every weekend to watch films. He used to watch three to four movies in a day. He's a hard worker but he knows how to have his fun,” says Aruna Devi.

He is all set to become the Chief Minister of Karnataka and the fact that he has won by a 40,000 vote margin is, in Yeddyurappa's own words to his family, a dream come true.
