New Delhi: Police in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh have received an anonymous letter threatening the life of yoga guru Baba Ramdev.
The letter was found in a post-box outside the office of the Additional Superintendent of Police in Moradabad.
Police have detained a person named Iqbal in connection with the threatening letter and have beefed up the yoga guru's security.
Baba Ramdev is currently holding a camp in Moradabad which is on till March 30.
The renowned baba has been embroiled in many controversies in the past. He has been leading a tirade against fizzy drinks for a few years now, saying they should be treated as toilet cleaners and has even advised Indians to drink only fruit juice and milk to keep diseases away.
However, this is the least of his troubles. In 2006, the yoga guru was in the line of fire after being served a notice by the Health Ministry for a statement in which he "claimed that he could cure AIDS".
A case had been registered against him and the General Secretary of his Divya Yog Mandir Trust on the orders of a local court for allegedly hurting the "sentiments of Hindus" through a book called Sant Darshan.
The book, according to the petitioner, allegedly used "objectionable and abusive language about the Hindu religion and Hindus".
His comments on Mahatma Gandhi — that Gandhi's non-violence alone did not achieve freedom for the country — earned the wrath of followers of the father of the nation.
