Youngsters fight Parzania ban

Ahmedabad: More voices are being raised against the unofficial 'ban' on screening Parzania in Gujarat.

And the younger generation is taking on the might of the multiplexes in Gujarat to lead a direct attack on those, which are not screening the film.

They are staging a protest in Ahmedabad, pledging not to watch films in multiplexes until Rahul Dholakia's film Parzania is allowed to be screened.

Backed by an NGO called 'Drishti', young people are also trying to convince other moviegoers to keep away from the movie halls.

Drishti's director says the protest is not just about a film screening, but also more about the law and order situation in the state.

"Its not just a question of the film. The question is who is responsible for law and order. Why should these young people be shivering here with fear, when they are protesting," said Drishti Director Stalin K.

The protestors are addressing their complaints directly to multiplex owners by distributing small leaflets at ticket counters. They feel bans like these could set a dangerous precedence.

"If I can go and watch any movie, why not Parzania. It should be allowed," said Shashi, a student.

"Today, they wont allow us to watch a movie. Tomorrow they wont allow me to eat 'Bhindi'. A day will come when they will say, take the colour green out of the Indian flag," said another student Avani Sethi.

The group has also decided to meet the Police Commissioner on February 20, with a demand that those who are responsible for not screening the film should be put behind bars.
