Youth attacks woman with blade for saying no to marriage

Mumbai: A 22-year-old woman was attacked with a sharp blade by her male friend, who was angry with her for having rejected his marriage proposal, police said Thursday.

The woman suffered injuries on her face following the attack Wednesday evening. She was admitted to a hospital where she was administered stitches and discharged, they said.

The accused, Mayur Batawale (25), was arrested Wednesday night and on Thursday produced before a court which remanded him in police custody till September 17.

According to police, the two Borivali residents became friends through social networking site Facebook a month ago.

Batawale attacked the woman at around 7 PM as soon as she stepped out of a beauty parlour at suburban Borivali where she works.

They then met face to face a fortnight back after which Batawale started following her and began camping outside the beauty parlour. A few days ago, Batawale proposed her for marriage but she rejected it, they added.
