Youth hits Gowda's vehicle, commits suicide

Bangalore: In a bizarre incident, a 23-year-old man Ramesh committed suicide in Bangalore allegedly because his car hit former prime minister Deve Gowda's car.

While there is no evidence to show he was threatened, sources say that fear drove the youth to take the extreme step.

Ramesh's mother is inconsolable after her youngest son committed suicide on Wednesday evening for what many feel is a flimsy reason.

On Wednesday morning Ramesh banged the Maruti 800 he was driving into the JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda's Cheverolet Forester in front of the former prime minister's residence in Padmanabhanagar.

Though the bumper of Gowda's car was damaged, nobody was injured. Reports say, as Gowda's security men tried to rough up Ramesh, he was let go with a warning from Deve Gowda.

Later in the evening Ramesh was found dead in his room. Though the police registered a case of unnatural death, they say the lack of a formal complaint from the family makes investigations difficult.

"Until and unless someone comes up with some allegations we are not going to imagine or record things of our own. We cannot take suo moto action. At least someone has to come and tell us that we have got suspicion," says Alok Kumar, Deputy Commissioner (South).

And while Ramesh's family refuses to talk, Deve Gowda and others close to him too are silent about it.

In a city where 1,000 new vehicles are added to the roads every day, minor accidents are commonplace. But for Ramesh what would have been just another scratch on his car turned out to be the biggest miscalculation he ever made and he paid for it with his life.
