Hyderabad:Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister YSR Reddy's first death anniversary is on September 2 and his son Jaganmohan Reddy is threatening to divide the party in the state.
Jagan appears determined to reclaim his father's legacy just a year after YSR was killed in an air crash. He is even eyeing Andhra Pradesh chief ministership. Despite stern warnings against going on his statewide march, Jagan decided to use his father's first death anniversary to go ahead with his plans.
"This has got nothing to do with Congress party. I am Jaganmohan Reddy doing this as my father's son," says Jagan.
Jagan's defiance is perhaps a sign of the times. Under YSR, Andhra was considered a Congress bastion, as the party won two elections in a row. A year later, the party appears deeply divided in more ways than one.
The rift over separate statehood for Telangana is getting wider by the day with the Congress MPs from the region refusing to even acknowledge their party counterparts from Andhra Pradesh during the recent Parliament session.
For Chief Minister K Rosaiah, the 77-year-old party veteran, faction management is proving difficult. The recent by-elections in Telangana confirmed that the Telangana Rashtra Samiti is now a force to reckon with.
From being the state which gave the Congress its single largest chunk of MPs in last year's general elections, the party is now struggling to hold together.
