New Delhi: As the official week-long mourning period for the late Andhra Chief Minsiter YS Rajashekhar Reddy draws to a close, the clamour to anoint his son Jagan Mohan Reddy as chief minister is growing louder.

Andhra Bhavan in the national Capital is booked to capacity with MP's camping here for over a week to petition the high command.

One of the MP said, "We met Pranab Mukherjee. He also agreed that Jagan is a mature young man."

Keen to avoid vitiating the atmosphere, Jagan followers were quick to deny reports of a possible split in the party were the high command to reject Jagan's cadidature for the top job.

"All this propaganda is wrong. We will listen only to high command," quipped another MP.

While at least 4 MP's and a few MLA's have expressed their reservations over Jagan, party sources say a majority of the 156 MLA's continue to back him quite simply because they owe their political careers to his father YSR Reddy, who, in the face of some opposition, had hand picked these candidates for the Assembly polls and had a major say in ticket distribution for the Lok Sabha polls as well.

In Hyderabad too, the absence of many ministers close to the YSR family from cabinet meetings was being viewed as their reluctance to work under stand in CM K Rossaiah.

However, Rossaiah said, "There is no such thing "

While the Congress high command sources say remains reluctant, given Jagan Mohan's inexperience and age, the resistance to such a decision and its fallout is not lost on them.

A meeting of the Congress legislature party is expected some time next week. Meanwhile YSR loyalists are desperately seeking the son rise.
