New Delhi: The BCCI on Thursday removed veterans Zaheer Khan, Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh from its list of contracted players, while Sachin Tendulkar, who will retire after his ongoing 200th Test, continued to be part of Grade A.
Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, skipper MS Dhoni and his Chennai Super Kings' team-mates R Ashwin and Suresh Raina are the five players part of Grade A that offers a retainership contract of Rs. 1 crore. While Ashwin has shone in the Test series against West Indies, Raina's name among the highest earners is a bit of surprise considering he is not part of the current Test squad and performed poorly in the ODI series against Australia.
Harbhajan, Zaheer and Sehwag are currently playing the Ranji Trophy in an effort to make a comeback into the squad, but by keeping them out of the list of contracted players, the board has once again indicated that the veterans are no longer part of their scheme of things for the future.
