
New Delhi: Assam is submerged yet again, the fourth time this monsoon. The Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark and more than seven lakh people are said to be affected in the heavy and incessant rainfall over the past few days.
The districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Nagaon, Kamrup and Barpeta remain the worst hit. Sources say that amongst the freshly inundated areas are the Majuli island and the Sibsagar district. The Kaziranga National Park too is said to be under water.
While the state government gave evacuation orders and announced relief measures on Saturday, people say they are yet to receive anything.
"We are suffering from heavy losses. If we don't get help, what will we eat? How will our children go to school? We are dependent on farming," said a resident of Dhemaji....
