Karnataka: Lawyers to boycott courts for 2 days Bangalore: In response to the call given by the Bar Council of India, lawyers belonging to Karnataka State Bar Council will boycott courts on July 11 and 12 protesting against some new bills proposed to be introduced in the monsoon session of Parliament.

A member of the Bar Council of India, Bhoje Gowda told PTI, considering the impact of Higher Education Research Bill, 2011, the National Accreditation Regulatory Authority for Higher Education Institutions Bill 2010, Foreign Educational Institutions (Regulation of Entry and Operations) Bill, 2010 and the National Law Schools Bill, 2011, we are of the opinion that the said bills are an attempt to allow the entry of foreign institutions in the country".

Ultimately, the Indian culture, institutions, poor students, the Indian Bar and the future generations will be the sufferers, he said.

Gowda charged the HRD ministry of being bent upon weakening the lawyers' bodies and said the proposed bills were a "direct attempt to weaken the State Bar Councils"....more
