The Indian Air Force is set to confer the honorary rank of a Group Captain on Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar in recognition of his outstanding achievements as a sportsperson. Traditionally, honorary ranks in the Air Force have been given to outstanding achievers. Past recipients include J R D Tata and Vijayapat Singhania who were both awarded the honorary ranks of Air Commodore. Tendulkar, however, would have no official responsibilities with the IAF.
