London: Pakistan bowler Mohammad Asif has lost an appeal against his conviction for spot-fixing. The Court of Appeal in London said on Wednesday there weren't "any grounds, arguable or otherwise, for attacking the safety of the convictions of this applicant."
Asif served half of a 12-month sentence for his involvement in a plot with two fellow Pakistan internationals to bowl deliberate no-balls during a Test match against England in 2010.
Former captain Salman Butt and teenage fast bowler Mohammad Amir were also convicted and spent time in jail. Asif is almost two years into a seven-year suspension from all forms of cricket, imposed by an independent tribunal. Two years of the ban are suspended.
