Dalit memorial scam: Akhilesh says UP govt will follow the law

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has said that the state government will do everything possible under the law in the Dalit Memorial scam case in which close aides of BSP chief Mayawati have been indicted.

While Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta NK Mehrotra had said that there is no evidence against Mayawati in the Dalit Memorial scam, he had recommended that the money should be recovered from former ministers Nasimuddin Siddiqui and Babu Singh Kushwaha.

The scam had taken place during the Mayawati regime and had cost the exchequer almost Rs 1,400 crore and the Lokayukta has submitted the report to the Akhilesh Yadav government. Siddiqui and Kushwaha have been told to cough up an estimated 30 per cent of the total costs.

The Lokayutka has named 199 people including 37 accountants and over 50 government engineers in its report. Submitting his 1,346 page report including annexures to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Mehrotra said irregularities to the tune of Rs 1,400 crore were detected which was 34 per cent of the total budget for construction of memorials and parks....more
