New Delhi: Brad Hodge showed how important a player he is in the shorter version of the game as his counter-attacking half-century helped Rajasthan Royals eke out a four-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Feroz Shah Kotla here on Wednesday.
When Hodge came to the wicket, Rajasthan were tottering at 57 for 5 in 10 overs chasing 133. And while rest of the batsmen from both sides were unable to adjust to the slowness of the pitch, Hodge not only played with relative ease but also translated his innings into a match-winning knock. He ended the game with two consecutive sixes off Darren Sammy, remaining unbeaten on 54 off just 29 balls. Rajasthan will now play Mumbai Indians in the second Qualifier on Friday to book their date with Chennai Super Kings for Sunday's final.
The pitch used for Wednesday's encounter was much slower than that in the first Qualifier at the same venue on Tuesday, which Parthiv Patel (1) found out when he mistimed a length delivery from Vikramjeet Malik and was caught in the offside. Malik, who was drafted into the side for Pravin Tambe, struck again when he had Hanuma Vihari (1) caught at mid-on attempting an expensive pull.
It was time to consolidate and both Shikhar Dhawan (33) and Cameron White (31) had to mould their natural game. Dhawan hit his and the team's first boundary with a simple push to the wide of mid-off; White also made a conscious effort to

That Rajasthan Royals would join IPL heavyweights Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians as this season's first play-off entrants with two matches still to play is an achievement not entirely expected at the start of IPL 6. Lacking superstar power - their No. 1 player is Australian allrounder Shane Watson - and led by a retired 40-year-old expert technician in Rahul Dravid, the Jaipur-based franchise have defied the odds to...

Mumbai: Mumbai Indians went top of IPL 6 table following a convincing 14-run win over Rajasthan Royals in a dead rubber at the Wankhede Stadium here on Wednesday night. Both teams went into the match with the knowledge that they had already made it to the play-offs, and that took plenty of significance off the match. In pursuit of Mumbai's 166 for 8, the visitors could only go as far...

Jaipur: Rajasthan Royals skipper Rahul Dravid is extremely pleased with the team effort in their six- wicket win over Kings XI Punjab, here. Chasing a modest 125 on a difficult wicket, Rajasthan won by six wickets. "It was Sreesanth who got us early wickets and Chandila too did a fairly good job opening the attack. Our rest of the bowling and the fielding was also good and we could restrict...

Jaipur: On a slow pitch at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday, Brad Hodge's sparkling unbeaten 46 gave Rajasthan Royals a respectable total which they defended with an inspired bowling performance led by Siddharth Trivedi and Kevon Cooper and backed by sharp fielding, especially from wicketkeeper Dishant Yagnik who pocketed three catches. Chasing 145, a limp KKR combusted via a series of rash strokes and went from 40 for 2...
