Over the last decade, breast cancer among women has been on the rise in India, with an estimated one in every 22 Indian women likely to protract it. While the conventional method of mammography (X-ray of the breast) uses X-ray radiation exposure to visualize lesions in the body, many health administrators refrain from irradiating normal patients for screening, especially young women. Siemens has introduced Automated Breast Volume Scanning (ABVS), a non-invasive technique for scanning the human body. The system automatically acquires volume images of the breast without any user intervention required. Will this help spread awareness about the disease and encourage young women to get a check-up done?
