
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has stopped a project that was meanto bring cheetahs to India. The flagship project was considered to be the pet project of former environment minister Jairam Ramesh and was cleared by the Cabinet as well.
The Court has stated that proper approvals were not taken from the National Board of Wildlife.
The Cheetah project was for bringing cheetahs to India. The idea was to bring back the Cheetah, which had gone extinct from the country in the 1950s.
A few animals were to be brought in from Namibia and their enclosures had been prepared in a wildlife sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh for release....
