IPL: Police submit reply on Goenka's allegations New Delhi: Delhi Police on Friday submitted an interim reply on Umesh Goenka's plea in which he had alleged that he was forced to record his statement during the ongoing investigation in the IPL betting scandal. Goenka had alleged he was beaten up and forced to write the statement which said Rajasthan Royals' co-owner and actor Shilpa Shetty had asked him to bet in a particular Indian Premier League match.

Delhi Police's reply states that prima facie Goenka's allegations are untrue, sources said. The statement was made in front of the Metropolitan Magistrate and hence the plea casts negative aspersions on the judiciary, the reply states further. Goenka's plea will be next heard on July 2.

Goenka had mentioned in his statement that Shetty's husband and another RR co-owner Raj Kundra also placed bets through him in the IPL matches. The sources had said that the statements given by Goenka can be used as evidence. Questioning of Shetty also has not been ruled out, but the Delhi Police had claimed that they are verifying Goenka's statement first.
